Actress by day, activist... also by day.
Anne Hathaway is a queen in her own right. Not only in her role as Mia Thermopolis, but in real life. Hathaway has grown as a actress to play some amazing female roles like Princess Mia (The Princess Diaries, 1 and 2) and Daphne (Ocean’s Eight), but she has been a voice across the world in the feminist community.
Hathaway has videos going viral of her speeches at the United Nations, Human Rights Campaign, among others, where she has voiced controversial perspectives on women’s rights, men’s rights, HUMAN Rights. She advocates for women’s equality, but also a fairness to men, especially as parents. She speaks on topics affecting everyone by the stereotyping and gender roles set in our society. She wants to break those constructs to make the world better. She said during her speech at the UN, “We all benefit from living in a more compassionate time, where our needs do not make us weak, they make us fully human.” She is a woman that has chosen to carry a weight across oceans to fight for equality in every nation.
Hathaway is also a huge advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. Her quote for the HRC speech
“It takes no courage to love you” is powerful and encouraging. She takes her role very seriously as an ally. She makes every attempt to be inclusive and respectful to any person she meets. She is unafraid to treat people who would be disrespectful to the communities to which she is an ally, with “the side eye”.
She is a person who, on a daily basis, defends those who are persecuted just for being true to themselves. She strives to make change for people across the world, of every ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, etc., to have their fair, equal shot. Hathaway take her public voice and uses it to the benefit of others. Hathaway is a woman who recognizes her privilege, uses it and will continue to use it at every opportunity to help others. She strives to be a better human by bettering other humans’ experiences. That is amazing. Powerful. Enlightening. Worth recognition.
