Dear Internet,
Time to thank Nintendo for yet another string of priceless meme content.
As many of you may have seen, when Super Smash Bro’s came out, Waluigi being left out memes covered the featured sections of iFunny. Well, Nintendo has done it again. In 3D Toad World, Toad can receive a power-up crown which turns him into Peach. Cute right? Well the internet took this power up and made it into… something very confusingly sexual.
Introducing, Bowsette. It is STILL Bowser under all the leather clad cleavage, so all you hentai people are really just jacking it to a spiked-back snapping-turtle with fire breath. Regardless, the other aspect that has filled the meme servers is the fact that thousands of people are ADMITTEDLY masturbating to these fan art creations! What? This is simply an example of the oversexualization of our society.
Oversexualization is a process in which seemingly harmless events, places, and people are morphed into a unnecessary sexual item. It is this process that creates in little boys/young men, the idea that any situation can in fact become sexual if they want it to. Unfortunately oversexualization effects young men more mentally which in turn effects young women physically. Everything down to how they did their makeup or what they decided to wear is sexualized by the men around them, and it leads to what is known as “rape culture”.
Now I won’t go into details about this because I do not want to trigger any readers. But I will end by noting, that rape culture is a hot button issue today. With one side of our political system denying it, and the other side, not quite knowing how to handle it properly. But it starts at this level. While I can appreciate the meme and fan art quality, it should never have gotten to a point where it is fetishized. What do you think?
