If you live on the planet earth you have probably heard of the Cardi B and Nicki Minaj beef. There are many opinions on this like who’s right, who’s wrong, why it’s stupid, why its valid, etc . None of that matters. The thing that everyone seems to be missing and the biggest issue with this fight is that it sets all women back. This fight, that started as petty comments and attitudes, has escalated into what some would call “an all out cat fight”. These two women, who are objectively nothing alike in style or personality in music, are being pinned up against each other for the public’s entertainment and its super problematic.
These beef between these two women only solidifies all the things that people think about women in our society. These same things that they used to keep a women from being president: women are crazy, emotional, and most of all erratic. Society believes this. Just ask the girl who has only guy friends on any campus or school and she will say “Girls are too much drama," "I just get along better with guys," "I'm not a girly girl.” These are said as if girls, any amount of girls, in group can not get along and this situation demonstrates that on a wider scale with the internet.
Events like this will keep feminists from achieving the ultimate goal of equality. How can women be treated equally by a society that sees us as needing direction or management at all times? The answer is we can’t. They want us to fight. They want us to hate one another. They want us to feel like there’s only one seat at the top for women ad that we can't support each other and get there together. If we keep letting things like this control our behavior and how we present ourselves as women there always will be this view of women. We can not progress society if we do not progress as a group. We can not let society keep us at the bottom by supporting our division in the media and on the internet. If one of us loses, we all lose. The only way up, is together.
