So today I am coming at you with Know Your Body Part 2! We are going to look over 5 types of headaches and how to best help them. Let’s dive right in. Type 1:Tension Muscle-Jaw Pain
These headaches start in the temple region. As you will see many headache revolve around the temple area however none are quiet as centralized around the temple areas. Treating these headaches means some minor lifestyle changes over all, like staying clear of overly hard food and reducing coping behaviors like clenching your jaw.
Type 2: Sinus
Sinus headaches are caused by pressure building in the sinus cavity and you will likely feel this headache most in your upper cheek bones and nasal area. For minor sinus pressure, some allergy medicine remedies the issue post-haste. However, stronger sinus pressure headaches may take some combination of medications such as Advil and Dayquil/Nyquil. If you aren’t a fan of mixing medications, just take one and put a hot wash rag over the bridge of your nose and on top of the cheek bones, reheating when necessary. Type 3: Stress
Stress headaches are nearly the most common headache. They feel like a band is wrapped around your forehead squeezing closed around your skull. These headaches are not often severe but annoying enough to make you grumpy. The best remedies for headaches like these are hot baths, meditation, and just about any form of relaxation possible. Stress headaches shouldn’t require any type of medication unless you are at a point in your day when you cannot take the time out to relax in some way. Type 4: Cluster
Cluster headaches are headaches that originate from one major area in your head, typically the eyes. Cluster headaches can be dangerous, and if persistent you should seek medical attention. However, for the occasional rare cluster that hits you in a rush, take your typical pain medication and seek refuge somewhere will minimal to no light. The darkness will qualm the throbbing sensation as light can often irritates these types of headaches. Type 5: Migraine
The dreaded migraine. The worst of worst for headache sufferers. They cover any and all parts of the head face and neck. Migraines are not uncommon but as with the cluster if they are persistent you should seek medical advice from a doctor. Migraines must still be treated with caution. Migraines are often accompanied by nausea, vomiting and other sensitivities. Migraines often last for full days at a time, but if one migraine lasts longer than 3 days you should contact medical help immediately. Migraines are fickle headaches and are cured in different ways for different people. So, because of this, any and all remedies mentioned for the other headaches are fair game. This is because most Migraines stem from the existence of other headaches. So, if you had a stress headache that melted into a migraine your best bet to cure it is to follow the suggestions for stress headaches and so on.
Listening to your body is a meaningful practice, but it does take time. I hope that by sharing these with you, you will feel better equipped the next time your body tries to tell you how it is feeling.
